Now that both municipal election dates have come and gone and the population
has chosen their municipal and MRC representatives (see complete results page 9), many voters may think the show is over, just because they placed their ballots in the appropriate boxes. read more »

For the first time this year, when Pontiac voters visit their local polling stations on November 5 to participate in the Quebec municipal elections, they will have an extra box to mark - for the region’s first elected warden. Advance polls will be held October 29. read more »

A recent $10.5 million settlement to former child-soldier Omar Khadr for his treatment at Guantanamo Bay has been making headlines, with many Canadians (71% according to a recent Angus Reid Institute survey) saying the Trudeau government made the wrong decision by not leaving it to the courts to determine the outcome of Khadr's $20 million lawsuit (filed in 2004). read more »
Fair pay for the new warden’s job?

During June’s Council of Mayors meeting (see page 6), a majority voted in favour of setting the elected warden's annual income at $38,400 plus expenses, for a total of $54,800, the provincial minimum; this represents a $20,000 increase from what the warden currently earns ($34,800 annually). However, the amount will be reviewed at budget time, and it can only increase. read more »
