PONTIAC OUEST NAMES FIREFIGHTER OF THE YEAR  - Paul Gagnon poses by a firetruck in St. Joseph with his plaque as Firefighter of the Year for 2020 from the Pontiac Ouest Fire Safety Services. Although no appreciation dinner was held due to COVID restrictions, the department still issued the award.


RAPIDES’ MAISON DES JEUNES LANDS DONATION FOR RENOS - Les Maisons des Jeunes du Pontiac in Rapides-des-Joachims recently received a $5,020 donation from the Deep River and District Community Foundation to purchase and install windows and doors in the organization’s headquarters in spring 2021. The building that houses the youth centre and the village’s community centre is about 100 years old. Many years ago, the building was used a school house, then as a gathering hall for several years. The building underwent several renovations this summer; painting the entire building and installing new flooring, toilets and bathroom vanities. The building’s original windows let in a lot of cold air in the winter, making it energy inefficient and hard to heat.

SHAWVILLE – You know you’ve made an impression when you get a mention by Rick Mercer on CBC television. According to James Sally that happened for the Flying Elbows Tournament a few years ago as another puck dropped on March 21 for the 14th edition of the Flying Elbows at the Shawville arena. FORT-COULONGE – On March 12, the Filles d’Isabelle, chapter 1293, presented its 3rd annual fashion show at the St-Pierre Parish Hall to a sold out crowd of 200 women. Mona Davis emceed most of the event that featured 27 women between the ages of 15 and 74 years old modelling a total of 44 changes of spring fashions from the Shawville / Clarendon stores of Boutique Gwendoline, Shawville Shoe, and Giant Tiger, as well as the Pembroke Mall stores of Ricki’s, Pennington’s, and Alia. read more »
