FORT-COULONGE – A press conference was organized, April 9, at Chutes Coulonge where Pontiac MNA Andre Fortin announced, on behalf of Jean Denis Girard, Minister for Small and Medium Enterprises, Regulatory Streamlining and Regional Economic Development and the Minister responsible
for the Mauricie region, $38,000 in financial
assistance for the Chutes.
Through the Program to Support the Recovery and Retention of Strategic Enterprises and Territories in Difficulty, this investment will
help purchase and install a splash pad at the Chutes park; the total cost of the project is
estimated at $91,106. The remaining funding will be received from the MRC Pontiac, the provincial government, a loan through the SADC, and funds raised by the Chutes themselves.
Before the announcement, Jean François Dubois, Chutes Director,
welcomed those in
attendance, announced the new activities planned for this season, gave an update about the reconstruction process
at the park, and
discussed the splash pad which is expected to
be in operation this
season. New activities this season included a new obstacle course in
the trees and several kilometers of walking trails. Dubois also explainded the Chutes
is working on developing more children’s activities, to be ready within the next year.
“Chutes Coulonge is a major tourist attraction in the Outaouais region. We are proud to support this project, which will undoubtedly increase traffic to the park. Attracting more visitors from Gatineau and Ontario will benefit the economy in the Pontiac region,” emphasized Fortin.
