ILE-DU-GRAND-CALUMET & L’ISLE-AUX-ALLUMETTES – Over the summer holidays, three Pontiac schools, Notre-Dame-du-Sacre-Coeur and Dr. Wilbert Keon in L’Isle-aux-Allumettes, and Sainte-Anne in Ile-du-Grand-Calumet, will be undergoing close to $400,000 worth of renovations.
Notre-Dame-du-Sacre-Coeur will have work done on the windows and exterior walls ($175,000), Dr. Wilbert Keon will have exterior doors replaced ($140,000), and Sainte-Anne will have work done on the exterior walls ($75,000).
The funding announcement was made in Gatineau, April 21, by Stéphanie Vallée, MNA for Gatineau, and Minister responsible for the Outaouais region, accompanied by her colleagues Marc Carrière, MNA for Chapleau, Maryse Gaudreault, MNA for Hull, Alexandre Iracà, MNA for Papineau, and André Fortin, Pontiac MNA. In total, 44 Outaouais schools will be renovated, for a total of $13.9 million.
The investments, part of the normal Maintien des bâtiments and Résorption du déficit de maintien measures, will enable school boards in the region to carry out 57 school-building renovation or upgrading projects. According to Fortin, the funding envelope for the Outaouais is slightly larger than it was last year.
The school boards were mandated with identifying the most pressing projects within their schools and submitting proposals to the government. The boards are expected to go to tender for the work shortly. Hauts-Bois-de-l’Outaouais had 8 projects approved for a total investment of $1.1 million, while the Western Quebec School Board received $3.3 million for 12 projects.
