FORT-COULONGE – Pontiac MP André Fortin announced at a press conference on Principale Street July 11 that up to $400,000 in funding will be awarded to the MRC Pontiac from the Société d’habitation du Québec to help low or modest income homeowners with major repairs to their homes. The MRC manages the applications, and this year 36 requests can be approved.
Last year, the Program Rénorégion (PRR) offered $325,000 in assistance to the Pontiac through the same program.
Fortin said the economic and social benefits of the funding are significant, and noted that the grants assist people with low income, especially seniors who have fixed revenues, and can help them stay in their homes longer. He added that the residential improvements will also directly contribute to the beautification of municipalities and help the local economy since many of the contractors hired to do the work will be local.
