MRC PONTIAC – The MRC Pontiac issued a press release, December 12, announcing their partnership with the Pontiac Tourism Association (PTA) to form a Tourism Advisory Committee (TAC).
The news follows a decision made by the Council of Mayors during their monthly meeting on June 20. At the time, representatives of the PTA, Robin Judd (President) and Jessica Forgues, proposed a partnership that would see the PTA as an equal member of the Committee, holding four of the eight seats. “I don’t see anything but benefit,” said MRC Pontiac Warden Jane Toller, noting the partnership would prevent duplicated efforts as the parties “move forward together”.
Four representatives of the MRC Pontiac will also sit on the committee: the tourism marketing officer and three mayors. The four members of PTA will be able to share their experiences, strategies and contacts in the tourism industry, as well as local industry feedback. Likewise, the three mayors can relay municipal information and news, as well as tourism-oriented discussions from the Regional Council. What comes from the TAC meetings will complement the work of the MRC Tourism Marketing Officer.
“We are excited to work closely with the PTA because we believe tourism will bring economic development and growth to the Pontiac. Together we are stronger,” said Toller.
The Committee’s first meeting was December 13, and it will continue
meeting for five years to ensure close collaboration between the two parties.
