CAMPBELL’S BAY – With 223 items donated by local residents and businesses ranging from baked goods and accessories to boat rides and everything in between, the Friends of St. Joseph’s Manor raised $18,291 for the Manor’s expansion project through an online auction.
The auction began March 4 and ended March 29, and was coordinated by committee member Charleen Moore who spearheaded the idea last year. Moore said she was overwhelmed by the community’s support, which grew from 130 donated items and $11,208 raised in 2018.
The 10-member committee was formed in May 2018, shortly before the $250,000 fundraising campaign for the Manor’s expansion was launched. To date, $222,000 has been raised.
The renovation project will include a chapel, laundry room, hair salon, and an administrative office plus ten additional rooms for residents to accommodate the facility’s large waiting list, at a cost just shy of $1 million. According to Colleen Larivière, Manor director, ground-breaking is planned for June 2019, and the construction process is expected to take about 10 months.
