The answer is local management!

Although I share many of the sentiments expressed in your editorial, “CISSSO: des pénalités s’imposent aux gestionnaires” in the January 29 edition of the paper, there is a basic point that has been missed and needs to be acknowledged. Our four local managers have a lot of responsibility and no authority.

This has resulted in a central authority in Gatineau that is greatly out of
contact with rural realities. It should be remembered that in 2015, the Pontiac Hospital was the only institution out of the now six in CISSSO to successfully balance their budget of $36 million with the lowest number of administrators per institution – 19.
The solution, as identified by Mme Lamarche in Maniwaki, is more
local management with the authority to implement the immediate required changes as they arise.
We need to support our local managers and Gatineau needs to listen to them rather than imposing their “top-down management” style which has proven disastrous.
