PORTAGE-DU-FORT – ‘Shop locally’ is a phrase often heard in smaller communities where businesses often struggle to compete with larger retail centres. ‘Support local community organizations’ is another theme often promoted. ArtPontiac has some new projects in 2022 geared towards making both of these things easier for local people and visitors to the Pontiac.
This spring artPontiac is launching a brand new initiative. A members’ shop will open in June at the historic Stone School in Portage-du-Fort. The shop will be a permanent season long display of the art and craft work of its members.
It will feature work in mediums such as sculpture, pottery, fibre art, framed and unframed prints and paintings, handmade paper, wood carving and art cards in a range of prices ready to suit any budget.
In 2020 artPontiac launched its online boutique offering regional artists access to the world of on-line sales. The new members shop in Portage-du-Fort will provide a physical space for art and craft lovers to browse and shop. Future plans include the participation of artist members in local art and agricultural fairs as well as day art tours, starting at The Stone School Gallery and continuing to local studios (by appointment) with stops at local restaurants and other attractions.
ArtPontiac is a volunteer organization whose mission is to promote art and artists and contribute to the cultural development of the Pontiac. They are looking for interested volunteers; if you feel you have something to offer the association, as a member, a supporter or a volunteer please contact artPontiac at 819-647-2291 or galerie@artpontiac.com.
