As we approach the holiday season, the giant Asian factories are running at full speed to provide Quebecers with monstrous piles of cheap products made at the expense of Canadian labour. This year will be different. This year, Quebecers must think about themselves, and of all Quebecers. There is no excuse, we can all find Candian or Quebec made gifts to offer. It ‘s time to think outside the box.

Who says a gift needs to fit in a shirt box, wrapped in paper, all produced by the Chinese?
Everyone needs their hair cut. Why not give gift certificates for local hair salons or barbers? A gym membership for 3, 6 or 12 months for those who want to take charge of their fitness? Who wouldn’t appreciate car wash gift certificates? The services of a gardener to cut the grass in the summer or someone to plough snow in the winter? Who wouldn’t need an oil change for their car, truck or motorcycle?
Restaurant owners would like nothing better than to offer their gift certificates. This is to encourage our towns and our locals, which sometimes helps to keep their doors open.
A gift to please Mom? What about maid services for a day, a holiday, or even a spa day, a massage, or beauty treatments with a beautician?
Several local artists and artisans make products that are 100% Quebec made – jewellery, pottery, wood carvings, etc. What about tickets to a play or ballet, theatre tickets, or tickets to a show from a Quebec artist?
China invades us with their products. It’s up to us to worry about ourselves and encourage our small Québec companies who work hard to survive. When we care about other Quebecers, we care about ourselves, our community, and our locals. Think about the economic benefits for Quebec merchants if we were to shop local. Our money stays here and grows here.
By buying products made in the Pontiac, Quebec or Canada, we save jobs. You could be saving yours.
Happy Holidays, made in Quebec! Think Pontiac!
