On July 19, I filed an access to information with Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) to obtain copies of the minutes of any board meetings regarding the Ottawa River Regulation Planning Board (ORRPB) from September 1, 2018 to July 2, 2019. The ORRPB controls the water level in the Ottawa River.

ECCC has a member that sits on the ORRPB, so it should have been a pretty simple request. Apparently, it wasn’t for this federal department with thousands of employees. On August 8, I received a notification that they would need 150 working days to process my request: “Due to the significant search of records involved, meeting the original time limit of 30 days would unreasonably interfere with the operations of the Department,” it said. 150 days to find minutes of a few meetings they attended conveniently hides the information from the public until after the federal election. What is the government afraid will be exposed by sharing this information? Only the truth. Consider that when you vote on October 21!
