Due to an incredible surge in Covid cases, caused by the Delta and Omicron variants, the loosening of restrictions reported last week has taken an about face. Quebec reported an all-time record of over 4,500 cases on Monday, December 20, with predictions this could double every few days.

As of this date, schools, bars, gyms, movie theatres, concert venues and spas are closed. Restaurants have their capacity reduced by 50%, but they can remain open between 5 a.m. and 10 p.m. Non-essential workers are mandated to work from home. According to the government website, people are encouraged to avoid all unnecessary social contact.

Quebec also implemented the distribution of rapid test kits through local pharmacies, starting December 20, with 5 per person allocated every 30 days; a medical card is required to obtain the kits.
