FORT-COULONGE — École secondaire Saint-Joseph (ÉSSC) was proudly represented on the provincial stage in Quebec City on October 7, celebrating a sweeping series of honors at the annual Forces AVENIR Gala.
The event, held at the Théâtre Capitole, recognizes outstanding commitment, perseverance, and community leadership within school communities across the province.
Leading the honors for ÉSSC was student MaryLynn Lepack, who was recognized as a “Persevering Student” and received the coveted provincial “Coup de cœur” (Heart Touch) award.
Despite managing daily health challenges, Lepack has maintained strong academic results and remained focused on her goal of pursuing post-secondary college studies in healthcare. School officials praised her courage and adaptability, noting that her journey serves as an inspiration to her peers.
“Her story reminds us that perseverance does not mean never encountering obstacles, but rather continuing to move forward at one’s own pace, despite difficulties,” ÉSSC shared in a statement celebrating her recognition.
Community Projects and Student Leaders Recognized
Alongside Lepack’s spotlight, several other ÉSSC students, staff members, and initiatives were celebrated for their impact both in the classroom and across the Pontiac region:
Abby Dagenais (Committed Student): Honored for her entrepreneurial spirit and community involvement. Dagenais co-leads the Carcajous gourmands initiative, helping prepare and distribute more than 300 meals to children in need, and co-founded a local craft business that has sold nearly 1,000 creations at local markets. She was also featured on Radio-Canada’s Découverte program to discuss the impacts of climate change on youth well-being.
La Marche 24 h (Committed Project): Represented by students Lexie Drapeau and Frédérik Lemaire alongside teacher Martin Bertrand, the 24-hour, 100-kilometer walk challenge mobilized 28 students to fight local food insecurity. Despite harsh weather conditions during the event, participants completed 60 kilometers and raised $6,300 for Bouffe Pontiac.
Natacha Corriveau (Committed Staff): Recognized for her dedicated support and leadership within the ÉSSC school community.
“These nominations testify to the remarkable commitment of our students and staff, as well as the richness of the projects that make our school and community shine,” the school administration noted following the ceremony.
