Seeing first-hand the detrimental effects a lack of physical activity can have on their patients, the GMF du Pontiac nurses have created a weekly walking program called “Pontiac Walks” to increase motivation and awareness of the importance of exercise. The goal of Pontiac Walks is specifically to encourage chronically ill patients to exercise which will help manage their ailments; however, all are welcome to participate.
The walking program is available throughout the Pontiac. Start locations include the CLSC Fort-Coulonge/Mansfield every Thursday at 10:00 am, the CLSC Otter Lake on Tuesdays at 9:30 am, the Lotus Clinic in Shawville on Wednesdays at 9:00 am, and the CLSC Quyon every Thursday at 9:00 am.
Jenna Bertrand, one of the founding nurses of “Pontiac, Walks”, explained that she and her fellow nurses feel that providing access to this walking group will allow them to “educate, motivate, and support clientele in the management of their health.” For more information on the initiative, contact one of the health establishments listed above.
