The Gardens and Gift Tour held on the weekend of August 4-5 was an amazing event filled with local wonders. I particularly enjoyed the tour at La Fée des Bois with an emphasis on the healing properties of plants, which only added to the beauty of the tour, as well as a magical touch. The permaculture method of
gardening was fascinating at Santainaii in Thorne, with the Spiral Garden being an
inspiring concept for anyone. Their maple popcorn was also quite inspirational! At the Senf’s in Greermount, traditional wood oven-baked pizza was the cherry on top after a lovely walk around the gardens guided by Leila and accompanied by beautiful sights of hummingbirds. Some of the interesting local gifts from the artists were McCormick handmade wands, handmade jewelry made from recycled tin, and all kinds of mixed media paintings in Katharine Fletcher’s amazing studio at Spiritwood Farms. The Pontiac is definitely not lacking in originality and fun; all we have to do is go out there and enjoy it. I’ll watch for front page coverage of this event next year!
