These animals may transfer the pepper from their paws to their faces; once in their eyes, the pain can be excruciating. Raccoons have been found dead with their eyes scratched out from trying to stop the pain.
The animals are actually helping the grub problem; every grub the animals and birds eat is one that will not evolve through their lifecycle and lay eggs next summer. One solution to ridding your properties of the grubs is to roll back the grass, pick the grubs, and drown them in a pail of water.
