MANSFIELD – Gunz N’FN Rosez (GNFNR), a popular Guns N’ Roses impersonator band, will be performing at the Mansfield ball park during the DJ/Rock Pontiac celebration, June 28, at 10pm.
“The band was created in its current form in the late 90’s and is currently comprised of five members, like the actual Guns N’ Roses band. We replicate their manner of dress and some of us wear wigs while we perform their biggest hits such as Sweet Child of Mine and Welcome to the Jungle as well as covers like Knocking on Heaven’s Door,” explained Al Gilmer, lead singer for the band who goes by the stage name ‘Vegas.’
The band has played in various locations in Canada and the United States, as well as Dubai in the Middle East. The band has also made an appearance on the Howard Stern Show in Las Vegas and opened for Skid Row in Washington.
According to Gilmer, the show in Mansfield will be about 90 minutes long with no breaks. “We strive to put on the best show possible and love to entertain people with Guns N’ Roses music so they can appreciate it. There has been a lot of negative connotations and stigma associated with the music and the original band that overshadows some amazing songs,” explained Gilmer.
Although Gilmer grew up in Brampton, Ontario, he currently resides in Vancouver while most of the remaining band members are from Toronto. “I have always loved Guns N’ Roses’ music. I grew up playing and singing their songs since I was about 13 years old.”
Although GNFNR has performed in many areas of Quebec, they have never been to the Pontiac and are eager to arrive. “We can’t wait to get there. I love the French culture present in Quebec. Canada is great because we encompass that culture, which gives us more identity,” concluded Gilmer.
The DJ/Rock celebration runs from June 27-29. Aside from GNFNR there will be a softball tournament, a performance by Generation 2, pony rides, face painting, a movie night, and various other activities.
