Higher taxes do not bring prosperity

In the past 4 years Otter Lake has become one of the highest taxed municipalities in the MRC Pontiac. From 2009 to 2013, due to the doubling of our assessment, this has given the council a 60% increase in revenue, far beyond the rate of inflation; operating and administration costs increased by $500,000 going up from 1.2 million dollars to 1.7 million dollars in 4 years.

Spending and excessive taxation is spiralling out of control with no accountability to the people. A large percentage of our population are on fixed incomes. For example, the costs associated with the court case of a municipal employee amounted to $46,000. The case went in favour of the employee as a wrongful dismissal. We, the taxpayers, are now liable for this error by council.
A local politician told me that many  people in the province have been selling their property due to the high taxes here. Something is wrong with the magnitude of our tax system. We must elect people who will stand up against the wasteful spending of bureaucrats and become masters of our own municipality.
