SÛRETÉ DU QUÉBEC HOSTS COMMUNITY COFFEE AT CARTRITES – Police officers from the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) gathered at Cartrites Restaurant in Shawville on Friday morning, December 12, for an event billed as an opportunity to meet police officers, support workers and other Pontiac community workers for an informal chat over a cup of coffee. The event was part of the “12 Days of Action to End Intimate Partner Violence.”
Janie Landry of Victim Services and SQ Const. Morin said that upcoming activities for SQ members include delivering Bouffe Pontiac Christmas hampers and Angel Tree gifts to families in need across the MRC Pontiac. The deliveries were scheduled for December 15, with some officers bringing family members along to help.
In a discussion about food insecurity in the Pontiac, Landry acknowledged there may be a link between financial and food-related stress and tensions in the home that can lead to intimate partner violence. She said this connection highlights the importance of Bouffe Pontiac’s work and the continued support it receives from the SQ, local governments and the public. – Clifford Welsh
