A short thank-you to Mr Bermer for his letter in the last issue of the Pontiac Journal – I completely agree that the Journal is a wonderful addition to Pontiac life. Where else do we hear about news from all over the region?  The best part is its mix of English and French.

A short thank-you to Mr Bermer for his letter in the last issue of the Pontiac Journal – I completely agree that the Journal is a wonderful addition to Pontiac life. Where else do we hear about news from all over the region?  The best part is its mix of English and French.
Although I am almost 60 years old, my French is improving by reading both
versions. My daughter-in-law hardly speaks English, so I am able to be more welcoming to her – thanks to your articles!  I never thought that letters to the editor could be happy ones – they always seem to be from people angry about something. This is my very first!

The Journal replies:

Thank you, Mrs Scott, for your letter; and thank you Mr. Bermer for yours,
printed in the December 3rd issue.  It is a great compliment to those of us who work at the Journal to know that you ‘get it’.  And, I’m sure there are many more of our readers who also understand what we consider one of the main strengths of our paper.
The mission statement that we carry on our masthead every week, of being a         unifying force within our communities, is one that we take very seriously at the Journal.  Blending our two languages and cultures is one relatively simple way of doing something on a local scale that is needed, so desperately, on a global scale.  This is apparently now more than ever.
We wish every one of our readers the very best during this Christmas and holiday season and into the New Year.  By
continuing to work together to strengthen our communities and find workable
solutions to our challenges, the Pontiac can become a dynamic symbol of what is
possible on a larger scale.
