I was stunned, and very saddened in reading the recent article regarding the
Ile-du-Grand-Calumet resignations in the August 24 edition of the Journal. As Canadians, we have the privilege of living in a democratic society, and to think that a mayor (an elected official) was treated so badly and with such disrespect by her peers is incomprehensible to me. Shameful, unethical and unprofessional come to mind.
My humble opinion is that Mrs. Nadeau was saddled with long lasting problems – why were some taxes not collected – some as far back as 2001? Property taxes in the range of $100,000 could have been very beneficial for a municipality such as Ile-du-Grand-Calumet, or any municipality for that matter. Why weren’t these monies collected and properties sold? I cannot even imagine!
I had the opportunity to meet Mrs. Nadeau on a couple of occasions. She was a very classy individual, and well educated to boot – someone who wanted to help out and make her community the best it could be. It’s a real shame and a great loss for that community I have no doubt.
Best of luck to you Mrs. Nadeau – enjoy your life and keep your head held up high – real high.
