Recently, two Pontiac organizations, the Pontiac Journal and the Pontiac Chamber of Commerce, have once again given Pontiac residents the opportunity to nominate their favourite businesses or businesspeople to have them awarded for their hard work, dedication and exceptional service.
In its third year, the PCC Business Achievement Awards will highlight the winning       businesses or individuals at their Awards Gala in October, with nomination forms available on their website or by contacting the PCC directly. The public can participate in nominating businesses for the second annual Pontiac Journal Reader’s Choice Awards by clipping out the   nomination form in the Journal and mailing it to the Journal’s office or by emailing notice@            journalpontiac.com. What better way is there to highlight and reward local businesses and businesspeople for a job well done?
Methods of recognizing local businesses like these are very important for small communities like our own where making a go is challenging on the best of days. Lets face it – with a          relatively small population, a low average income in the area, and large commercial stores right across the bridge, making a living and surviving here as a business is very tough and oftentimes impossible. It’s essential that we highlight, congratulate, and reward those that are able to hold on and battle through the hard times and persevere.
Not only does it give the nominated business a moment in the spotlight to honour their hard work and dedication, it also reassures them their work has paid off and that they’re taking the right steps in the right direction, and it encourages them to continue. Doesn’t a pat on the back or a simple “good job” make all the difference         sometimes?
In awarding and highlighting the businesses and entrepreneurs, there is also the possibility that they will receive additional support from our local community, and possibly from outside communities that read the local papers. Awarding a business tells others what exceptional services and products are available right at our door steps in our own home towns. If people are made aware that a good, quality,        reasonably-priced service or product is available locally, they will choose to shop here instead of travelling across the bridge or to Gatineau. This supports our local businesses and helps our local economy grow.
The polls are open and all residents are encouraged to    cast their votes. Supporting,          highlighting and honouring our local businesses and entrepreneurs is essential for our community’s survival – when our local businesses and businesspeople succeed, we all benefit from their success.
