There are major changes coming in the organization of the health care
system and the Centre de Santé et de Services Sociaux du Pontiac.  In health care, complex decisions require a range of specialist skills.  Directors (hospital directors, medical societies, university specialized committees), with input into decision-making, can be particularly
useful, and their contribution is critical. This means taking into consideration the ideas of those working on the front line. This model includes accountability from all levels of management and has more chance to create an upward spiral of
continuous improvement.
Centralization will reduce local
decision-making based on the needs of local community hospitals, with limited regard for the community.  Centralized management could result in the loss of administrative positions, obligatory
displacement, uncertainty about the future, and social and economic damage to Pontiac families, as the CSSSP is a major employer in the area.
Communities with small populations depend on local hospitals. The stability of the CSSSP has been established by the work, perseverance, and effective
management of directors, administrative personnel, and medical teams. According to continuous Ministry evaluations, the CSSSP is a good model for providing health care to the rural regions of the Outaouais.
Although changes may be necessary to improve care in rural hospitals, local administrative and medical directors
are well positioned to propose and
implement corrective actions.
Instead of expending resources
to make these precipitous changes in organization, some of these expenses should be used to finalize uncompleted projects in rural regions to create jobs and bring hope and happiness to local families.
