THORNE – The mayor of Thorne, Terence Murdock, hosted his first annual Mayor’s BBQ, August 30, at his home. He and municipal councillors Marguerite Born, Essie Schwartz and Debbie Stafford, and Director General Stacy Lafleur,      welcomed more than 150 residents and cottagers.
This was an opportunity for residents to meet their neighbours, and raise funds for a new fire truck for the municipality. A 50/50 draw was held, earning $425 for the cause, and by the end of the day, a total of $3,206 was raised.
Outstanding Citizen Awards were     presented to Donna Early, Vic Shires and Elson Shock. An Honourary Fireman’s award was presented posthumously to Louis Hodgins, which will hang in the Fire Hall.
Guests enjoyed sausages, hamburgers, hotdogs, numerous salads, and desserts made by local ladies, and a bar stocked with many beverages.  All expenses were paid by Murdock.
