SHAWVILLE – Since September 12, the Pontiac Groupe de médecine de famille (GMF) has been offering a minor emergency clinic to all residents of the MRC Pontiac and Munici-pality of Pontiac at the Lotus Clinic in Shawville.
Those with a minor emergency – eg.: earache, bladder or eye infections – can call the clinic where they will be given an appointment. Sarah Graveline, Pontiac GMF Coordinator, said calling first and making an appointment is recommended, but walk-ins are also accepted.
According to Gravel, the service allows the clinic to be more available to patients, and to be compliant with provincial directives to offer services 68 hours per week. “The Lotus Clinic has the space and equipment. Plus, this keeps minor emergencies out of the hospital so the doctors can focus on other things,” she said, noting all of the Pontiac’s family doctors will work the minor emergency clinic on rotation.
With 10 sites in the Pontiac associated with the Pontiac GMF, Graveline said more minor emergency clinics may be opened in the future. The plan is to make this arrangement long-term, she added.
The Lotus emergency clinic is open Monday to Thursday from 4 to 8 pm, and Saturday and Sunday from 8 am to 12 pm. Those who suspect or are not sure if their symptoms are related to COVID must first call the COVID line at
819-644-4545 or 811; the representatives will advise patients if they can be seen at the clinic.
