CAMPBELL’S BAY – After serving Pontiac and Aylmer for four terms, Charlotte L’Écuyer, MNA, announced on July 4 that she would not seek the Quebec Liberal party nomination in the next provincial election. Citing increasing health challenges, L’Écuyer also said it is time for someone new to represent the area. And at the age of 70, she believes it is time to pass the torch.
The last provincial election gave Quebec a minority government led by the Parti Quebecois. The Liberals hold the balance of power with the right-leaning Coalition Action Québec in third. The Pontiac riding L’Écuyer represents is mixed, both urban Aylmer and rural Pontiac; a linguistic mix; and a significant political mix with voters devoted to both major parties.
Several possible candidates are considering a run for the Pontiac Liberal Association nomination. There has been no date or location set for the nomination meeting.
