MRC PONTIAC – At the March 19 Council of Mayors meeting, council committed to applying for a grant with the Ministry of Transportation to support TransporAction. Through the ministry’s Public Transit Development Program, Pontiac is seeking $100,000 annually for 2025, 2026 and 2027. The MRC plans to contribute $25,000 each year as well.
TransporAction is a local non-profit organization founded in 2004 that operates both public and adapted transportation services across the MRC Pontiac. It provides essential transportation to medical appointments, as well as access to groceries, services and community activities, particularly for residents without vehicles, seniors and people with mobility limitations. The service relies on a combination of minibuses and volunteer drivers, who also accompany clients when needed.
“We apply for this funding regularly for TransporAction,” said Kim Lesage, MRC Pontiac director general. “Without it, the organization wouldn’t be able to offer its services. We have a large aging population with limited incomes; without this service, many wouldn’t be able to access the health care they require. It’s a critical service in the area.”
The organization completed 9,343 trips in 2024 and about 10,128 in 2025. It is projected to complete 10,975 trips in 2026 and 11,900 in 2027. Customer revenue in 2025 was approximately $84,000, with projections of $90,737 in 2026 and $96,932 in 2027.
Lesage said the organization is always looking for volunteers. More information is available at transporaction.com.
