MRC poll on composting

I noticed the MRC Pontiac’s poll about composting in the May 24th Pontiac Journal. I thought this was a great idea because it is important to get more people onside with reducing what goes to the landfill and composting is a big step to achieve that. But when I took our poll over to town hall, no one there knew anything about it. Nothing!

Nothing! Obviously there has been a breakdown in communication between the MRC and our local municipal offices.
I urge the MRC to continue this campaign, but it must be done with more thought—
perhaps a more eye-catching poll in the paper, better designed, but also with some lead-up promotion. Either a few public notices that this is underway, or getting the Journal to write some brief articles about the campaign and its importance to us. I know some of this has been done, but repetition is the key to any good advertising campaign.
I am afraid that the MRC will think Pontiac people do not want to help with reducing their carbon footprint, or that they cannot reach the people even for something as important as this. Putting it on Facebook is a real waste of tax-paid time. I use Facebook for my family’s birthdays, not for important subjects like the environment or economic development, or any of the really big questions that face us.
In conclusion, I also wonder why so many of us do not pay attention to things that will impact our own future? From mayors to town clerks to us, the general public! I’ve been composting in town for over 25 years, without any animals getting into it or nasty smells. And, the resulting black earth is something I use every spring to make my garden grow even more beautifully.
