The MRC recognizes the private wood producers’ important contribution to the economy and supports the Fédération des forestiers du Québec in their request to the Minister to assess available timber from private lots, and consult with wood producers boards in accordance with the Agricultural, Food, and Fish Products Marketing Act, before guaranteeing    supply.
The MRC is also in favour of the Fédération’s request to the Minister to implement a tax system that favours    forest management and timber             production while respecting applicable laws and regulations.
In collaboration with other community partners, the MRC is committed to the Intra-municipal Public Land (TPI)      contributing to the revitalization,         consolidation, and socio-economic   development of the region and local  communities. The MRC’s objective is to promote, in an optimum and integrated manner, development opportunities on the territory in accordance with local and regional concerns and needs, and in   compliance with the principles pursued by the government in planning,            management, and development of public lands. Since 2006, the MRC has awarded $4.5 million worth of forest contracts on the TPI to local contractors.
Finally, in terms of investment in     sustainable development, in 2012, the MRC Pontiac obtained FSC certification, guaranteeing responsible forest management for its Intra-municipal Public Land.
