MRC PONTIAC — The Pontiac Soccer Association is enjoying a record 2026 season, with 280 players and more than 60 volunteers participating across the region.
League coordinator Stéphane Durocher said accessibility remains a top priority for the organization. Registration costs $70 ($75 online) and includes a uniform, referee fees and a year-end commemorative gift. The association also offers free registration for families in need and operates an equipment recycling program for soccer cleats and shin pads.
“We always try to keep costs low to give all the kids the chance to play,” said Durocher. “We don’t have playoffs or trophies. It’s basically recreation for all the youths to have fun.”
The league’s 25 teams are coordinated by a 10-member committee and play out of four regional hubs in Bryson, Campbell’s Bay, Waltham and Mansfield. Mansfield operations have been based at the École secondaire Sieur-de-Coulonge (ESSC) fields for the past seven years.
One of the biggest developments this year is a new partnership with Soccer Outaouais, which provides training for 20 to 25 local high school students working as referees. The initiative helps improve the quality of officiating while creating employment opportunities for local youth.
The partnership will also support the launch of an indoor futsal program at ESSC. Backed by a $2,000 contribution from the MRC Pontiac sports and recreation budget, the program will provide organized indoor soccer opportunities throughout the winter, with activities planned through March 2027.
The association’s youngest age division remains its largest, with 13 of the league’s 25 teams made up of players aged five to seven.
The end of the soccer season will not mark the end of organized sports for many participants. The association’s eight-week soccer season is followed by an eight-week softball and baseball season beginning in mid-July. Registration is already underway through Les Maisons des jeunes du Pontiac for a softball season expected to attract approximately 450 players.
