SHAWVILLE – The Pontiac Community Hospital has welcomed a second surgeon, Dr. Mathieu Lacroix, to improve the hospital’s surgical capacity and ensure better care for Pontiac residents.

Dr. Lacroix’s arrival not only enhances stability within the surgery department, but also reduces the need for patient transfers, ensuring faster, more reliable care for Pontiac residents.

“The community will benefit from more accessible services and quality care right here in their own community,” said Nicole Boucher-Larivière, director of the Pontiac local service network with the Centre Intégré de Santé et des services sociaux de l’Outaouais (CISSSO)

The hospital has two operating rooms, which are crucial to maintaining the hospital’s status as a trauma centre where a team can quickly respond to emergencies and handle a larger range of procedures. Boucher-Larivière emphasized that without the addition of a second surgeon, the hospital wouldn’t be able to maintain that status or operate both surgical suites on a 24-hour basis.
