MRC PONTIAC – The Mayor of Ile-du-Grand-Calumet, Serge Newberry, is hoping to introduce a new policy to better guide the work of committees created by the MRC Pontiac’s Council of Mayors by detailing their mandates and structure. He made the request during the June 19 Council of Mayors meeting following a vote on a resolution concerning the Multi-use Committee for the PPJ.
Newberry also asked for background information about the resolutions
presented to the mayors for voting. “We are given the committee’s recommendations, but no additional information,” said Newberry. “There needs to be a report that states what the committee decided and why,” he continued.
The mayor said he integrated a similar policy for Ile-du-Grand-Calumet’s council a few months ago, before proposing it as an example to the MRC.
“Normally, you must have a document to manage the structure and operation of the committees,” added Newberry, noting there are many rules and guidelines to ensure the committees work effectively for the Council of Mayors.
Newberry mentioned that the MRC committed to working on creating its own version of the policy, but that the issue seems to have been put to the side.
