OLD SLED RUN DRAWS RECORD TURNOUT — The roar of vintage engines and the scent of two-stroke nostalgia filled the winter air Feb. 15 as the Old Sled Run rolled into the parking lot at Gavan’s Hotel in Quyon. The popular event drew a record 130 registered riders, marking the largest turnout in its history. The ride began in Constance Bay at the 616 Royal Canadian Legion, winding through the surrounding woods before heading onto the frozen Ottawa River, where riders crossed with views of the Gatineau Hills — a highlight that keeps many returning each year.
Organizer Mike O’Reiley said the event is rooted in nostalgia, noting riders enjoy gathering in the sun and taking in the Ottawa Valley scenery. Participants made their traditional stop at Gavan’s Hotel before returning to Constance Bay.
Now in its 19th year, the run celebrates vintage snowmobiles of all types, including the fan-favourite “Best Rat Sled” category for rough-looking but still-running machines. Thirteen award categories were presented. A $20 registration fee covers the ride, food, door prizes and awards, with all proceeds supporting the Legion. — Cheryl Dolan
