Once there was a tavern right here!

That was just one of the interesting facts that participants in the Bristol History Tour learned during the outing, August 14, pictured here at the village war memorial. The tavern was built by important entrepreneur William King, who also built Bristol’s first mill in 1837, explained tour guide Greg Graham, helping to turn the village into a bustling hub boasting 2 banks, a general store, a sash factory, and a tannery (among other businesses). The tour also visited the pier, the cemetery, and other historic sites in Norway Bay before returning to Coronation Hall for refreshments. The event was organized by the Friends of Chats Falls.
