We’ve learned that Global First Power has applied for a license to construct a high temperature gas-cooled molten salt nuclear reactor using enriched uranium as fuel at Chalk River, Ontario.  The public has been invited to comment on the Project Description, released July 15, and the deadline for comments is August 14.  A 30-day comment period when people are away on holidays seems entirely unreasonable.
Old Fort William Cottagers’ Association (OFWCA) is requesting a deadline postponement until September 30 as we would like to opportunity to
comment. As the first community downriver from Chalk River, we are among those who will be the most directly affected by these plans. Our members are on vacation now – in their cottages, many without connection to the internet. It’s impossible for them to comment without access to information.
Please consider a postponement if the CNSC is truly serious about the request for public comments.
