Open Letter to Premier Couillard on OQLF

I cannot believe you would allow the Office Quebeçois de la langue française to censure a small local bilingual newspaper, “The Pontiac Journal”,  because they had the community spirit to include French items of interest in their paper, as a gesture to their francophone neighbours whose local French community paper had closed down.

I cannot believe you would allow the Office Quebeçois de la langue française to censure a small local bilingual newspaper, “The Pontiac Journal”,  because they had the community spirit to include French items of interest in their paper, as a gesture to their francophone neighbours whose local French community paper had closed down.
The OQLF is hounding the Pontiac Journal because it contains ads of the opposite language on the same page, which the OQLF deems to be illegal.
I hope the Pontiac Journal refuses to cooperate with the OQLF and forces your government to seize and sell the assets of the paper to pay the fines. That action will show the rest of the world, via the news media, how petty the language laws of this province can be.
At times like this, I am ashamed to be Quebeçois. You should be too, Mr. Couillard.
