You and other Liberal candidates spoke of the need to protect Gatineau Park during the last election, and now the park needs your attention and action. Several construction sites have broken ground at Meech Lake, and two new houses are being built only metres from O’Brien Beach.

You and other Liberal candidates spoke of the need to protect Gatineau Park during the last election, and now the park needs your attention and action. Several construction sites have broken ground at Meech Lake, and two new houses are being built only metres from O’Brien Beach.
What you are doing to follow through on the 2013 Liberal proposal to protect Gatineau Park? In that policy, adopted by Caucus in June, 2013, Liberals outlined the need to define the park’s boundaries,
eliminate residential development, and manage the park first and foremost for
conservation and public enjoyment.
Besides the two new houses on Meech Lake, 130 new houses and four new roads have been built inside the park since 1992, not to mention that 8 sq. km of its land mass was removed behind closed doors. And in the last 10 years alone, 11 new houses have gone up at Meech Lake – which is supposed to be the showcase for Gatineau Park. That is unsustainable in a public conservation park.
The Liberals have said all the right things about Gatineau Park. They must now take action to put an immediate stop to all new construction in the park by imposing a moratorium and expropriating where
necessary, and they must introduce the
legislation they have long been promising.
The public demands to know what you will do about this situation. The time for real change isn’t next year, it’s right now. Before political and bureaucratic negligence tax future generations any further by allowing more and more residential construction inside Gatineau Park.
