We recently read with interest the letter published in the Journal’s January 15th issue, from Warden Jane Toller, about the need to improve the health of Pontiacers by supporting the proposed Wellness Centre, with a pool and gym.  We wholeheartedly agree that more needs to be done by our elected officials and the population themselves to become pro-active in improving the health of our communities.
Walking and cycling are two of the easiest and best ways (low impact) to improve an individual’s health at little or no cost.  We, in the Pontiac, are very fortunate to have the Cycloparc PPJ available to all citizens … it’s a beautiful and safe environment to enjoy these two easily accessible means of exercise.
We need to protect and promote this public asset. Let’s encourage our population to use the trail, by creating walking and riding clubs as well as other family and senior friendly activities, using the trail.
While we wait for the Wellness Centre to be built, let’s take advantage of what we already have and make the trail part of our healthy lifestyle. Imagine how wonderful it will be to walk or ride on the PPJ to the pool and gym. Good for the body and mind, good for the environment; a win-win for all.
