Proud of local young people

First, I want to thank you for printing the pictures from the St. Patrick’s dance in Sheen every year. Since I am of Irish heritage, they mean a lot to me. I was unable to attend this year, so I was very happy to see them and they made me smile. We should all be proud of our heritage and not be afraid to show it.

Needless to say, I was very upset to see the letter criticizing the young people in the photograph on the front page of the March 9th edition; the person who wrote the unsigned letter obviously doesn’t know them. I have known all of them since they were very young and I was lucky enough to teach two of them. You will not find anyone more respectful and well liked anywhere. Three of them were not drinking that night.
I have been attending the St. Patrick’s dances in Sheen for at least 30 years, dressed in lots of green. My mom Myrtle Sullivan, who lived to be 90, wouldn’t
miss one of these events because she loved that she could see so many
wonderful young people dressed up and having fun.
I hope the Journal keeps printing these pictures, but I hope letters without
signatures won’t be printed, especially ones that slander young, innocent adults.
