I just received a letter from Hydro-Québec notifying me of their intention to install a "smart" meter to replace my old electric meter; I will refuse its installation for the following reasons:
First, the dangers of electromagnetic power igniting these meters isn’t
well known and our legislators (the
government) should be cautious in
permitting these new meters.
Second, according to information on the Internet and TVA News, it seems that after the installation of the new meters, electricity bills have increased by 20% to 30%.
This is why I say ‘no’ to these not so "smart" meters; more than 100 municipalities in Quebec have already spoken out against their installation. What shocks me is that if I refuse the installation of the new meter, for the reasons listed above, I have to pay about 3.33% more for the same
electricity service. This is not normal. Usually, Hydro Quebec’s rate increases must be approved by the Office of Energy.
This is why I say Hydro Quebec is dishonest. I will refuse to have the new meter installed and will refuse to pay the extra
$5 a month for doing so. If enough people do the same, maybe Hydro Quebec will review its practices.
