Jean-Paul Murray’s letter to the editor (August 29) regarding residential development bylaw amendments for proprieties in Gatineau park in the Municipality of Pontiac is an attempt to create a furor over a non-issue. The by-law simply allows a very small number of residents who have property in the park the same rights—to renovate their homes—as other residents of the municipality. This was made perfectly clear at the consultation meeting by both municipal staff and the mayor. Mr. Murray was clearly looking to be outraged and in my view, what he got at that meeting were straightforward answers to his many questions. The lands Mr. Murray is concerned with are primarily regulated at the provincial level by the CPTAQ. The municipality cannot approve development on these lands even if it wanted to. Misrepresenting the facts of this issue helps no one.
