“A strange election”

Mr Ryan’s “Dispatches” last issue was very informative. I wish the national media had also studied the CAQ plans. I told my friends that if the CAQ was so conservative, why was the official Conservative Party running against them? I wondered about this during the election period, because we saw nothing of the Conservative candidate here – just like the PQ.  Who was the Conservative? And why did a campaign based on their ridiculous slogan, “I vote Conservative because I have the choice”, attract so many votes? Was it in code!
I also wondered why any people voted for the Marxist Party. What would that accomplish? Why bother going to vote at all? I realize that it was a form of protest vote. They were saying, “I would take a Marxist candidate over than any of these others”. That is a very strong statement! I then realized that is what the Conservative vote meant: they have little reason to think their vote will actually make a difference, but they want to wave their flag and self-identify as Conservatives. “We are still here!” And I was surprised there were so many!
Just a couple of thoughts on this strange election. Thank you for the stimulation.
