The Pontiac Journal is once again giving Pontiac residents the opportunity to
nominate their favourite businesses, businesspeople, community organizations, or municipalities, recognizing them for hard work, dedication and exceptional service. What better way to highlight, reward, and say ‘thank you’ for a job well done?
The public can nominate businesses for the fifth annual Pontiac Journal Readers’ Choice Awards by clipping out the nomination form in the Journal (see page 9) and mailing it to the Journal’s office.  Or you can vote on-line at www.pontiacjournal.com;  click the link in the top right corner, fill our your choices and submit. There are 38 categories to choose from this year, ranging from the hard-fought Best Poutine and Best Hair Salon to Best Customer Service and Best New Business. There are also new categories to recognize even more organizations including Best Brunch, Best Photographer, Best Municipality, and more.
The winners will be announced in a special section in the October 11 edition of the paper.
Recognizing local organizations and entrepreneurs is very important for small
communities like our own. With a relatively small population, a low average income, and large commercial stores right across the bridge, making a living and surviving here as a business is tough. It’s essential that we
highlight, congratulate, and reward those who are able to persevere and succeed!
Not only does it give those nominated a moment in the spotlight to honour their hard work and dedication, it reassures them their work has paid off and that they’re going in the right direction. Plus, it encourages them to continue.
In highlighting these businesses and entrepreneurs, there is also the possibility they will gain new customers, and possibly from readers outside our communities. Recognizing a business tells others what exceptional services and products are available right here. If locals are made aware that good quality, reasonably-priced services and merchandise are available close to home it will keep our consumer dollars in the Pontiac and help our economy.
Voters also have an additional incentive for submitting nominations: money! Those who fill out at least 50% of the ballot will be entered in a draw to win a $100 Visa gift card. Now that’s time well spent! But please, don’t try to stack votes. We are able to identify when this happens and these votes won’t be counted.
The polls are open and all residents are encouraged to participate. Supporting, highlighting and honouring local organizations and entrepreneurs is essential for our community’s survival – when they succeed, we all benefit from their success!
Deadline for voting is August 25th; don’t miss your chance!
