MRC PONTIAC – The Pontiac Tourism Association has begun distributing a
petition in hopes of reinstating bilingual “Welcome to the Pontiac” signs at
all entrances to the region. Jane Toller, president, said the Association unanimously voted to pursue the initiative. Petitions will be available in all municipal offices as well as at local businesses, including Spruceholme and Bryson’s Bistro du Bucheron in Fort-Coulonge.
“The Pontiac has so many great things to offer and it would be helpful for tourists to know when they have reached it … it’s unclear where the area’s boundaries are,” said Toller, who noted she also informed MRC Pontiac Warden Raymond Durocher, Pontiac MNA André Fortin, and the newly-developed economic development ‘SWAT’ team about the idea.
The petition will be available throughout the summer for residents to sign with the goal of collecting a few thousand signatures. Among other things, the
petition will be given to Fortin to present at the National Assembly.
Toller said the new signs would not replace those indicating the Outaouais’ boundaries but would contribute to increased pride in the Pontiac.
