The voting is over….what happens next? – Readers’ Choice gets creative to announce 2020 winners

MRC PONTIAC – For the past three months, Pontiacers have sent in their votes for
their favourite businesses within the 31 categories of the 2020 Readers’ Choice awards. Next would come the gala celebration to announce the winners — Pontiac’s “Best!” in the eyes of their customers and clients. But the pandemic has changed everything.
This year the Pontiac Journal’s Readers’ Choice team has decided not to hold the annual awards presentations at the Pontiac Conference Centre. “We couldn’t figure out how we could accommodate close to 200 people is a safe and ‘fun’ manner,” said Lynne Lavery, the Journal’s general manager. “But, thanks to a comment by a regular nominee, we think we’ve come up with a creative way to announce the results.”
Between Tuesday, September 22, and Thursday, September 24, at 7 pm each evening, businesses and the population of the Pontiac can tune into CHIP 101.9 FM, to learn who has been nominated in each category. The announcements will be spread out over three evening broadcasts with Best Food and Restaurants on Tuesday; Best Professionals and Other Services announced on Wednesday, and Best Retail – plus the 2020 Special Covid Service Awards – on Thursday.
“Be sure to tune in,” Lavery stressed. “There are some nice surprises for the
businesses. And with a call-in ‘draw’ each evening, a lucky listener will win a Visa
Gift Card for correctly answering a question about that night’s announcements.
“2021 should see us throwing the usual big party at the Conference Centre. Til then, our message remains bright and clear: we have incredible, dedicated businesses right here in the Pontiac. The more we can do to let everyone know who is here, right next door, ready and able to provide the goods and services they need, the better it is for everyone. We need to support our local businesses, now, more than ever! They are the lifeblood of our communities,”
concluded Lavery.
