On December 12, Pontiac MP William Amos was named Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry, specifically for the Science component.

A parliamentary secretary’s primary responsibility is to assist ministers fulfill their responsibilities in the House of Commons and speak on behalf of the government when questions arise in the absence of the minister. Amos will be responsible for issues such as national research centres, open data, statistics, intellectual property and copyrights.
“Scientific research is essential to a prosperous and clean economy and provides the evidence needed to make policy decisions relevant to the future of our environment, climate, health and society. Considering the measures of the 2019 budget, our government has allocated more than $10 billion since 2016 to science and research, as well as to people working in this sector,” concluded the MP. (AB)
