PONTIAC– On October 13, parents were advised
by the Western Quebec School Board that they
had been notified by
the teachers’ union (Western Quebec Teachers’ Association) and the
professionals’ union (Syndicate of Montreal-Area Educational and Service Professionals) that they will exercise their right to strike on October 26.
“In order to provide safety and security to our student population in all circumstances, we have cancelled classes and daycare services in all of our schools and centres. We hope the ongoing negotiations will come to an end very soon,” said the WQSB in a letter sent to all parents and guardians.
If negotiations are not reached, a two-day strike will take place November 9 and 10 followed by a province-wide three day strike from December 1-3 for facilities that belong to unions that are part of the Common Front.
