TRANSPORACTION DRIVERS TREATED TO CHRISTMAS DINNER

Over 50 TransporAction Pontiac (TP) drivers, all volunteers, were treated to the home-style cooking of the Bryson Lionnettes at the Bryson Community Centre, November 19. The evening was hosted by Sylvie Bertrand, TP director, to thank the drivers for their selfless commitment and exemplary work.

The evening began with a presentation by Serena Lariviere on the work done by the Beacon Network, developed in response to the Lac Megantic train wreck in 2013, when there weren’t enough professionals available to deal with trauma following the crash. The Beacon Network aims to sensitize people to the needs of those requiring emotional support due to negative life events.

TP made nearly 30,000 trips in 2023; people from all over the Pontiac are driven to appointments as far as Montreal and Gatineau. Given how busy they’ve been this year, Bertrand expects this number will be exceeded in 2024. She stressed that more volunteers are always needed.

A new dispatching system will be implemented in 2025 to simplify operations given the volume of calls received for service and driver expense claims. – Carl Hager
