LIONS JAMBOREE BUILDS MOMENTUM AFTER PANDEMIC PAUSE

The Shawville Lions Club hosted its 12th annual Country Jamboree from July 17 – 20, bringing music, dancing, and community together in one of the region’s largest fundraisers. The event, which resumed in full after pandemic disruptions, drew campers and visitors from across the Pontiac.

“The Shawville Lions have been running it for 12 years, but its roots go back about 25 years,” said head organizer Edward Walsh. “We lost two years to COVID, but we’re rebuilding. At our peak we had nearly 300 trailers; last year we bounced back to about 150, and this year looks as strong—maybe stronger—than last.”

The Jamboree is the Lions’ biggest annual fundraiser, with all proceeds after expenses going to local causes. “Once we pay for entertainment and rentals, every other dollar supports people in need—food banks, cancer patients, fire victims, accident survivors, schools—you name it,” Walsh said. The Jamboree’s impact extends beyond Shawville-Clarendon, with funds supporting surrounding communities like Thorne and Bristol as well.

For organizers and attendees, the mission remains clear: music, community, and giving back. – William Dale
