SHAWVILLE – The return of outdoor markets is often seen as a sure sign of spring across the region. These markets also provide an important venue for small artisanal businesses that may not have permanent storefronts. On May 9, the annual Shawville Street Market brought vendors and visitors together along Main Street, with some local businesses extending their storefronts onto the street for the day. The market featured a wide range of products, including handmade soaps, cosmetics, eco-friendly cleaning supplies, crocheted children’s toys, preserves, baked goods, clothing and jewelry. The sunny weather also helped draw visitors out to stroll the street, which was closed to traffic, and browse the displays during the unusually cool spring.
